10 Ways You Know Your Mother is from New England When You’re Not: Blizzard 2016 Reflections by Athena
- She saves any and all winter items that are not completely used THIS winter, for NEXT winter (i.e. salt)
- She buys your snowsuit in the summer.
- You are the only child on your block in a snowsuit
- She is the only female out shoveling snow on your block
- She isn’t wearing a hat or gloves while she’s doing it.
- Her area looks better than almost everyone else’s area of the sidewalk in half the time.
- People walking by keep remarking on how she should take you inside, out of the cold but she says it isn’t even cold.
- People who try to give her shoveling advice are laughed at then ignored.
- She already has homemade stew on deck for when she is finished shoveling and it smells delightful when you return inside.
- She didn’t need to go shopping for the “blizzard” because her fridge and deep freezer are always full—just in case.
